Our college has been named after Gargi Vachaknavi, a sagacious and enlightened philosopher of the 7th Century who was ahead of her times and exemplified scholarly excellence, fearless astuteness, divergent thinking and the relentless ability to question. We cherish the same tradition and encourage our students to challenge themselves, be sceptical and ask questions in this fast- pacing and ever evolving world. We started our humble journey way back in the year 1967 as a women’s college with 207 students, two courses and a faculty strength of 16 members. Now, 55 years down the line, we have 21 undergraduate and three postgraduate courses, over 5200 students and more than 240 faculty members with a very inclusive campus culture.
We are one of the few colleges in the University of Delhi that offers Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Commerce streams. At Gargi, we take pride in our students and faculty and nurture diversity as an asset, creating a safe space for ongoing and necessary conversations. Our college was awarded an ‘A +’ grade in its second assessment cycle by NAAC. We embrace the progressive nature of the National Education Policy that emphasizes application-based learning, value and skill enhancement, as well as cultural rootedness to add to your repertoire of life skills and necessary resilience to navigate the pathways of life. Apart from academic excellence, we also offer evolving research hubs that are steered by our brilliant faculty members who mentor our budding community of young researchers to think out of the box and develop a critical mindset to add value to the world. Gargi’s roll of honour has gold medallists’ across courses every year in the University.
Gargi college has ICT enabled classrooms, Wi-Fi enabled campus, air-conditioned auditorium and seminar hall, and a computerized library facility, along with a dedicated Research and Development Cell that continues to harness the budding researchers on our campus and the enthusiastic faculty members. When you walk around our lush green, eco-friendly campus, you would come across enthusiastic group of students vibrant with energy and ideas beyond their academic curriculum. They bring accolades beyond academics as we have 24 Cultural and Non- Cultural societies along with NCC and NSS. You walk further into our sports field and you would witness an inspiring interplay of discipline, dedication and duty by our sports teams who have brought us laurels both internationally and nationally. Outside of your classrooms, you could use our open gym as we emphasize the importance of holistic wellbeing.
In line with our community outreach goals and multidisciplinary perspective on wholesome education, we have also signed Memorandums of Understandings with various Institutes like the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS, Delhi); Rekhi Foundation for Happiness; ICT Academy; Government Model Degree College, Zanskar, University of Ladakh; K.R. Mangalam University etc. We try to provide a thriving academic space that helps you learn and unlearn and, at the same time, develop your purpose and vision for life and living!
