Commerce is an integral part of our day-to-day life. Every economic activity is interlinked with commerce. To carry trade and industry successfully and to meet the growing needs of the society, requires developing skills, attitude, and knowledge which are possible only through revitalized commerce education.
The Department of Commerce was established in 1973 and currently comprises of nearly 1000 students. The department has a brilliant pool of dedicated and experienced faculty members specialized in various fields of commerce that work towards providing quality education for the holistic development of students. The faculty is additionally engaged in writing, publishing, and presenting analysis papers in various National and International journals.
At present the following courses are being offered: -
The B. Com (Hons.)/B. Com course comprise of various unique subjects viz. Corporate Accounting, Management Accounting, Business and Corporate Law, Marketing, Taxation, Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Human Resource management etc. which empower students to handle the challenges of global business environment.
The Commerce education also opens further avenues in academic as well as professional fronts. Courses like M Com, CA, CMA, CFA, CS, MBA, Actuarial science etc. can be pursued after the three-year graduation degree. Having completed the commerce education, students can choose a career of academics or business professional.
The Commerce students at Gargi College have been placed in reputed organisations like KPMG, Ernst & Young, McKinsey & company, Deloitte, De Shaw, Accenture, Byju’s, The Oberoi Group, Wipro through campus placement. Some of our alumni are also the faculty members in the Commerce stream.

The Commerce Association of Gargi College is a student body that offers a plethora of opportunities for students to grow holistically, all while enjoying the process of learning. With the changing dynamics, the department never fails to incorporate numerous aspects into its activities that enable one to keep up with the corporate world in the most engaging way possible. Some of the initiatives taken by the association includes Cascade, Entrepreneurship conclave, lectures and workshops by eminent speakers, career counselling sessions and Pathfinder competition. CASCADE is the Annual Inter College Fest of The Commerce Department that comprises of panel discussions and various competitions to promote the overall growth and development of students.
Entrepreneurship conclave ideates around the art of brainstorming, innovation and problem solving which encourages students to start their own venture. The Pathfinder competition allows students to demonstrate their analytical and research skills.
In addition to all of this, The Commerce Department releases its bi-annual magazine, Comascent curated by the Comascent Editorial Team containing visual content, thinker's corner, trivia, puzzles, and academic and placement accomplishments.
