Gargi College Botanical Society "taru"

About

The Department of Botany at Gargi College is proud to host its esteemed academic society, known as "TARU," or The Gargi College Botanical Society.

Our logo is represented by a "Peepal tree". Ficus religiosa is named so because of its extremely rich history in human culture. Peepal is the same tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. And we at TARU believe we need enlightenment not just individually, but collectively to save the planet.

Vision

TARU is dedicated to nurturing the intellectual growth of our students, fostering a scientific mindset that revolves around the captivating realm of plant life.

Mission

Our mission to nurture the intellectual growth of our students. We focus at the holistic development of our students in every sphere of life whether its academics, extra-curricular activities, research, and mental well-being. We at TARU believe that we need enlightenment not just individually, but collectively to save the planet.

Furthermore,we firmly believe that prioritizing research is paramount in today's world, as it is the societies that cherish new ideas, treating them with the utmost care and value, that shape the future.

Society Activities

Throughout the year, TARU organizes a diverse range of events, featuring competitions and lectures delivered by eminent experts from various fields.

Our society has consistently orchestrated thought-provoking events, such as the "Food Day Quiz," "Your Slide Your Pride," and "Fallen Art". These competitions are designed to tap into the artistic and innovative talents of our student body.

In 2023, we are proud to commemorate the International Year of Millets. To celebrate this occasion, TARU has extended an invitation to distinguished speakers, including Pallavi Upadhyaya, the Co-Founder of Millets for Health. Ms. Upadhyaya has conducted a hands-on workshop, shedding light on the significance of millets in our diets.

Additionally, we have collaborated with the Research Development Cell (RDC) to host a lecture on "Environmental and Social Perspectives on the Fashion Industry". This event underscores our commitment to exploring interdisciplinary connections.

In this new year, 2023, TARU is thrilled to introduce a novel sub-division named "Scientia - The Journal Club." The name "Scientia," derived from the Latin word for knowledge, signifies the fundamental bedrock of the scientific world. It is within this club that we will engage in discussions, organize lectures, and partake in activities centered on research papers and their publications.

Scientia is an academically and research-oriented facet of TARU, primarily aimed at enhancing students' knowledge and dispelling any ambiguities related to the intricate research landscape.

Furthermore, the Department publishes "Anthesis," its annual publication. The term "Anthesis" signifies the flowering period of a plant, commencing from the opening of the flower bud. This metaphor encapsulates the essence of our annual publication, which thrives on a unique theme each year. For 2023, "Anthesis" is delving into the theme of "Natura Naturans: Wellness Unveiled," providing a platform for students to exhibit their exceptional writing skills and unleash their creativity.
