Ecomantra

About

Ecomantra is a student body of the Department of Economics that laid its foundation on 20th October, 2011.  The word  'Ecomantra' is a portmanteau of two words: “Eco” and “Mantra”. "Eco" here, refers to Economics in short and the term "Mantra" is derived from two Sanskrit words: "manas," which means "mind," and "tra," which means "tool" or "instrument." Therefore, a mantra is often described as a "mind tool" or "instrument of thought."

The name thus, represents the ideology and philosophy of the department which is to encourage students to have 'Economic instruments of thoughts'.

Since its inception Ecomantra has provided students a plathora of opportunities by organizing various Annual fests, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and panel discussions, providing students with opportunities to interact with eminent economists, policymakers, and industry experts. These activities enhance students' understanding of economics beyond the classroom and enable them to develop a well-rounded perspective on economic issues. In addition to the departmental society, our students actively participate in various inter-college competitions, research conferences, and community outreach programs. These initiatives help students develop critical thinking skills, teamwork abilities, and a sense of social responsibility, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to society. The department also publishes an Annual Economics Magazine, Ecobuzz.
