EDUFEST '24 : SAFARNAMA
The department of Elementary Education of Gargi college organised its annual departmental fest, Edufest on April 19th 2024. The theme of the event was
"SAFARNAMA". A stimulating discussion with alumni was organised to learn about their experiences and assist us in navigating this life - changing journey of
education. It was a privilege to have such great insights on fields beyond teaching. Our esteemed professors Dr Prachi Kalra and Dr. Chhaya Sawhney delivered an insightful presentation on the topic, Teachers Negotiating Professional Agency: A socio-historical Study of the B.El.Ed program, viewing it from their lens of expertise. T
The music society, Dreamchord, illuminated the stage with their melodic voices as they transported us over India's musical landscape.
Artwave and our photography club added their artistic and visionary touches of magic to curate the Edufest'24. Zeal, our dancing society brought in the wave of energy that lit up the atmosphere and made our hearts dance. Nathkhat, we were taken on a delightful excursion by our dramatic society. Joy and suffering taught us a valuable lesson about suffering versus safar. Novelty, our writing and orating society helped us carry out the whole event smoothly. The anchors brought in a wave of enthusiasm and added to the brightness of the day.

Recent trends in research in Mathematic Education
Dr. Chandra Tiwari, On 3rd April,2024, The Department of Elementary Education hosted a seminar featuring Dr. Arindam Bose from TISS. It was an insightful session for third and fourth - year students. Students got benefited from this enlightening session on current research directions in mathematics education. The session helped students to delve into topics ranging from ethnomathematics to the creation of thought-provoking questions and the practical application of textbook concepts.

‘Contemporary Concerns in School Education’
Prof Jyoti Raina and Dr Sumanlata also organized a panel discussion on the topic- ‘Contemporary Concerns in School Education’ on 1 February 2024. The eminent speakers included Dr. Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Chairperson and Executive Director Education, DLF Foundation Schools, Ms. Anuradha Joshi, Principal, Sardar Patel Vidayalaya, and Prof. Manisha Priyam, Department of Educational Policy, NIEPA, and Department of History University of Delhi. A monograph on the same topic by Dr Suman Lata and Prof Jyoti Raina was also released on this occasion.

Astronomy workshop and Museum Visit ( Nehru Planetarium )
Astronomy workshop for the entire department on 26 October, 2023 at the Nehru Planetarium. The workshop was facilitated by Ms Seema Wahi, a storyteller and Ms Prerna, the Assistant Manager at the Planetarium, to integrate science learning with storytelling through immersive experiences and astronomy related activities. This was followed by a visit to the Pradhanmatri Sagrahalaya to develop an understanding of the struggle for independence and development of Indian constitution.

For the 3rd year colloquia, Dr. Sumanlata invited Dr. Shalini Yadava, Associate Professor, School of Education GGSIP University as a discussant for a session on “National Policy on Education (NPE) 1986 on 13th October 2023; Prof . Harjeet Bhatia, as discussant on ‘Teacher Education’ from Department of Educational Studies, Jamia MIllia Islamia, New Delhi on 22nd November, 2023; Ms. Poonam Bhushan , Associate Professor, School of Education, IGNOU as discussant for public –private partnership in school education on 12th Feb. 2024.
