The English Literary Society

About

The English Literary Society is the English Department's Association. All members of the department are members of the LitSoc. Every year, the LitSoc conducts a departmental election to install the student office- bearers for the Society. The election process is rigorous, and overseen by faculty members, to ensure democratic representation of students from all the years. Aspirants to various posts nominate themselves via a centralised system; declare their agenda to the general body, after which the students cast their votes for each post. Faculty members take charge of the vote counting, and  results are declared on the same day.

The elected office bearers work in tandem with the faculty members, and a Convenor and Co-Convenor; they organise  and coordinate with  student volunteers of the department for every event. All logistics, hospitality PR, media and  accounts are handled by the students and overseen by faculty members.

Society Activities

The LitSoc conducts regular GBMs; seminars and workshops that complement the syllabi and enhance skill-building exercises and creative output. These range from  workshops on ethics of academic writing, or creative writing;  book readings, film and documentary screenings, to discussions with well-known academicians, authors, poets and film-makers, media personnel and journalists.

While all events conducted by the LitSoc aim to be informative and relevant to students, they also serve as team building exercises and provide hands-on learning experiences for the students' organisational skills.  Each event is well-documented through reports, photographs and videos; all of which are handled by members of the student body and volunteers.

Field trips that encourage ecological and socio-cultural augmenting of theoretical knowledge from classrooms too are regular events. Apart from these,  and Literati - the annual literary event/ fest, the LitSoc conducts inter and intra-mural competitions that ensure lively student participation throughout the year.
