The Department Of Philosophy, Gargi College held its Annual Departmental Fest, “Dialectica’24” on the 16th of April, 2024. The theme of the fest was ‘Philosophy Through Pop Culture’ and included a talk by Professor Rakesh Chandra who has worked extensively on women empowerment, education, and gender development, working with many programmes like UNICEF and UNDP. His areas of interest include Philosophical Logic, Epistemology, Analytic Philosophy, as well as Feminism and Human Rights. Additionally, various student-led activities were also held such as a Film Analysis Competition and an Is It Lyrics or Philosophy game. The event also included the reveal of its departmental magazine “Gnosis” on the theme ‘Free Will and Determinism’.

The department organised an educational field trip to Sunder Nursery on 3 March 2024, which focused on certain themes presented through the philosophy of nature, environmental ethics and animal ethics. The trip included a nature walk through the gardens, as well as other activities. These engagements were geared to further enhance the students’ appreciation for nature and to bridge the gap between the self and the natural world.

दर्शनशास्त्र विभाग ने 3 मार्च 2024 को सुंदर नर्सरी में एक शैक्षिक क्षेत्र यात्रा का आयोजन किया, जो प्रकृति, पर्यावरण नैतिकता और पशु नैतिकता के दर्शन के माध्यम से प्रस्तुत कुछ विषयों पर केंद्रित थी। यात्रा में बगीचों में प्रकृति की सैर के साथ-साथ अन्य गतिविधियाँ भी शामिल थीं। इन गतिविधियों का उद्देश्य प्रकृति के प्रति छात्रों की सराहना को और बढ़ाना और स्वयं और प्राकृतिक दुनिया के बीच की खाई को पाटना था।

The Department Of Philosophy organised a Vārtā session to celebrate World Philosophy Day on 12 December 2023. They invited Miss Ratna Appnender, a criminal lawyer by profession as the speaker. She talked about criminal justice while highlighting multiple theories of punishment from the perspectives of the victim and the perpetrator. 

This session gave students the opportunity to learn more about criminal justice, punishment, and law. It expanded their grasp of how laws are formulated, applied, and further amended to cater to the dynamic needs of the society. The event facilitated intriguing dialogues and engaging deliberations where students approached these legal issues through an overarching philosophical lens; particularly via a plethora of ethical perspectives.

दर्शनशास्त्र विभाग ने 12 दिसंबर 2023 को विश्व दर्शन दिवस मनाने के लिए वार्ता सत्र का आयोजन किया। उन्होंने पेशे से आपराधिक वकील मिस रत्ना अप्पनेंडर को वक्ता के रूप में आमंत्रित किया। उन्होंने पीड़ित और अपराधी के दृष्टिकोण से सजा के कई सिद्धांतों पर प्रकाश डालते हुए आपराधिक न्याय के बारे में बात की। 

इस सत्र ने छात्रों को आपराधिक न्याय, सजा और कानून के बारे में अधिक जानने का अवसर दिया। इसने उनकी समझ का विस्तार किया कि समाज की गतिशील आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए कानून कैसे बनाए जाते हैं, लागू किए जाते हैं और आगे संशोधित किए जाते हैं। इस कार्यक्रम ने दिलचस्प संवादों और आकर्षक विचार-विमर्श की सुविधा प्रदान की, जहां छात्रों ने एक व्यापक दार्शनिक दृष्टिकोण के माध्यम से इन कानूनी मुद्दों पर विचार किया; विशेष रूप से ढेर सारे नैतिक दृष्टिकोणों के माध्यम से।

On 3rd of October 2023, the Department of Philosophy conducted a social initiative 'Cinema for a Cause', a student-led initiative to raise awareness about People with Disabilities, related societal ignorance and achievable solutions to these problems. This initiative has been taken up keeping in mind the power and responsibility we all have to make a positive change in our world, moving towards a better future.

To achieve the same, the students collected donations from 25th September to 3rd October in the form of clothes and stationery and invited Bhumika Trust to accept the donations through our platform on 3rd October during our event where we had the students to join us for a movie screening to discuss the mentioned issues and share their insights to the same. 

The donation drive was held from 24th Sept to 3rd October, where the students and teachers could donate items of clothing and stationery as well as to understand how their contributions bring society closer

The award-winning short film "The Silent Child" (2017) was screened among the students, which follows the story of a young girl with a hearing disability and looks at the issues of discrimination and social stigmas.
The film screening was followed by a discussion on the themes of inclusivity and empathy, reflecting upon the messages of the film.

The open platform for discussion encouraged students, teachers and our guests to share their anecdotes, experiences and solutions as to how we can make our society more inclusive for everyone.

On 5th September 2023, celebrating the occasion of Teacher's Day, the Department of Philosophy held a celebratory event to express the gratitude of the students to the teachers. 
Students came together to create a poster card and write their messages of gratitude and inspiration for the teachers and it was combined together by the Creative Team of the department and presented to the teachers.

On 29th of August 2023, the Department of Philosophy celebrated Azadi Ka Amrit Mahaotsav (AKAM), celebrating the diversity and oneness of Indian languages. 
The session was initiated with a welcome note expressing the acknowledgment and celebration of linguistic diversity and India's rich and vast culture.
India, often described as a "subcontinent of languages," is home to a staggering linguistic diversity. With over 1,600 languages spoken across its vast expanse, it stands as a testament to the incredible variety of cultures and traditions that have flourished in this ancient land. Celebrating Indian languages is not merely an acknowledgment of linguistic diversity but also an embracing of India's rich cultural tapestry.
The event was honored by Dr. Deepika Chatterjee our ex-faculty, where she encouraged students to be proud of their vernacular languages and actively engage in the works of literature and artworks of various parts of the
The event proceeded with multiple games prepared by the union, where all the students participated enthusiastically and won various certificates. These activities engaged students in quizzes and intriguing games, where they learned about the same words, but in different languages, songs in various Indian languages and globally used words of Indian origin.

Shortly after, the event proceeded into an Open-mic session, where students could freely express themselves with songs, poems, anecdotes and various other activities. Students performed self-composed songs, poems and speeches about nation and languages.
After which, the event was concluded with the announcement of the winners and a group photograph, where the all the students and teachers dressed in the colors of tri-color and came together in the order of the color the flag.

29 अगस्त 2023 को, दर्शनशास्त्र विभाग ने भारतीय भाषाओं की विविधता और एकता का जश्न मनाते हुए आज़ादी का अमृत महोत्सव (AKAM) मनाया।
सत्र की शुरुआत एक स्वागत नोट के साथ की गई, जिसमें भाषाई विविधता और भारत की समृद्ध और विशाल संस्कृति की स्वीकृति और उत्सव व्यक्त किया गया।

यह कार्यक्रम संघ द्वारा तैयार किए गए कई खेलों के साथ आगे बढ़ा, जहां सभी छात्रों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया और विभिन्न प्रमाणपत्र जीते। इन गतिविधियों में छात्रों को प्रश्नोत्तरी और दिलचस्प खेलों में शामिल किया गया, जहाँ उन्होंने समान शब्दों, लेकिन विभिन्न भाषाओं में, विभिन्न भारतीय भाषाओं में गाने और विश्व स्तर पर उपयोग किए जाने वाले भारतीय मूल के शब्दों के बारे में सीखा।

कुछ ही समय बाद, कार्यक्रम एक ओपन-माइक सत्र में आगे बढ़ा, जहां छात्र गीतों, कविताओं, उपाख्यानों और विभिन्न अन्य गतिविधियों के साथ खुद को स्वतंत्र रूप से व्यक्त कर सकते थे। छात्रों ने राष्ट्र और भाषाओं के बारे में स्व-रचित गीत, कविताएँ और भाषण प्रस्तुत किए।

On 16th of August 2023, the Department of Philosophy conducted the Departmental Orientation with the new batch to familiarize them with the department, teachers, their fellow classmates and the department union.
The orientation was initiated with an opening note followed by a detailed presentation explaining to students the syllabus, anti-ragging, anti-bullying rules and various aspects of philosophy and departmental activities including Mimamsa: the Philosophical Society and the departmental annual magazine-Gnosis.
A comprehensive elaboration was given to the students about Philosophy as a discipline and how the students can include the lessons from Philosophy in their day-to-day lives.

After the presentation, a short doubt session was held to address the doubts of the students including doubts about the syllabus, attendance, sick leaves, and opportunities in the department, after which, the session was opened for an informal session where the students got to know each other, where class representatives for the first year were also elected.

16 अगस्त 2023 को, दर्शनशास्त्र विभाग ने नए बैच के साथ विभाग, शिक्षकों, उनके साथी सहपाठियों और विभाग संघ से परिचित कराने के लिए विभागीय अभिविन्यास का आयोजन किया।
ओरिएंटेशन की शुरुआत एक प्रारंभिक नोट के साथ की गई, जिसके बाद एक विस्तृत प्रस्तुति दी गई जिसमें छात्रों को पाठ्यक्रम, रैगिंग विरोधी, धमकाने विरोधी नियमों और मीमांसा: द फिलॉसॉफिकल सोसाइटी और विभागीय वार्षिक पत्रिका-ग्नोसिस सहित दर्शन और विभागीय गतिविधियों के विभिन्न पहलुओं के बारे में बताया गया।
छात्रों को एक अनुशासन के रूप में दर्शनशास्त्र के बारे में व्यापक विस्तार से बताया गया और छात्र अपने दैनिक जीवन में दर्शनशास्त्र के पाठों को कैसे शामिल कर सकते हैं।
