The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was established on 29th September 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It provides a methodology to rank various universities and institutions across the country. The framework draws from the overall recommendations of a Core Committee set up by MHRD, which identified the broad parameters for ranking institutions. These parameters cover five main categories:
- Teaching, Learning, and Resources
- Research and Professional Practices
- Graduation Outcomes
- Outreach and Inclusivity
- Perception
In 2016, NIRF ranked institutions in four categories: Universities, Engineering, Management, and Pharmacy. The following year, in 2017, NIRF added Colleges as a separate category and introduced an Overall ranking across all five categories. In 2018, NIRF expanded the ranking to include more institutions and added three new categories: Medicine, Architecture, and Law.
Gargi College has participated in NIRF since 2017, when Colleges were added as a category within the framework.
