Quad Erat Demonstrandrum , Q.E.D, stands for "which was to be demonstrated." The English Debating society, Gargi College is called Q.E.D after this famous Latin saying . We as a society participate in Parliamentary debates in Asian as well as British Parliamentary Formats organized by the debating circuit on Regional, National and International levels upholding the fundamentals of democracy and discourse. Established almost two decades ago,the society has grown to be one of the most active and prestigious societies of the College. Our members participate and win accolades in National as well as International Parliamentary Debate Tournaments spread across the world, helping us establish a strong footing in the Indian Debating Circuit. Furthermore, the society organises multiple tournaments independently and in collaboration with other institutes with the most recent one being the 17th edition of our Annual AsianParliamentary Debate Tournament - Wax Eloquent.

 Activities

The English debating society Q.E.D organized two big events in the past year which included "Debattle", an intra college turncoat debate competition in collaboration with Samarth - The Enabling Unit of Gargi College and proudly hosted the 17th edition of our annual flagship event "WAX Eloquent 24", an inter college Asian Parliamentary Debate competition. WAX witnessed heavy participation from students of the college as well as debate enthusiasts all around the country.  Along with these events, we also conducted aroud 9 workshops on a variety of topics like Adjudication, Case preparation, speeches, mechanization, etc throughout the tenure, inviting extremely skilled and reputed debaters from all around India to train the members and enhance the functioning of the society.

 

Achievements 

Over the course of years, QED has continued to bring many laurels to the College at National as well as International Parliamentary Debating Tournaments in both Asian Parliamentary and British Parliamentary Formats.

We enthusiastically participated as Adjudicators in tournaments across India winning prizes for top adjudicators judging Quarter Finals, Semi finals and Grand finals in Nottingham Parliamentary Debate, IIT Dhanbad Debate, Parlance PD, Mukhmem PD , Axiom PD, Mukhtalif PD,SBS BPD, Intertext Asian Parliamentary Debate Open, Malaysia to name a few. 

Our members have been Invited Adjudicators for prestigious tournaments like United Asian Debating Championship, Malaysia (Annual Debating tournament for teams from Universities in Asia), Hart House Women and Gender Minorities Parliamentary Debate, to various colleges across India like National University for Judicial Services Kolkata, Sri Venkateswara College, Centre for Vocational Studies, IIT Ropar,Shivaji college, Kirori Mal College,Lloyd college, Symbiosis Noida,Janaki Devi memorial college and many others throughout the year.

Additionally our members also excelled as Subsidized Adjudicators in various Tournaments organized at University level by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University Lucknow,IIT Delhi,BITS Pilani, Shivaji college, Ashoka University, Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Sri Venkateswara college and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College.

Moving to the Debating credentials our members have excelled in both Open and Novice Category tournaments emerging as Octo Finalists,Quarter Finalists and Semi Finalist and Finalists in tournaments conducted by Hindu College, Indian Women and Gender minorities Debating Championship 2023, IIT Delhi, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma Collge, Shri Ram College of Commerce, BITS Pilani among others while also securing the spot in top ten best speakers in tournaments.

Proudly, our members also served as Equity officers in different tournaments like Ehsaas PD, NUJS PD, Vitark PD,Axiom PD,IIT Delhi,CVS PD,KMCF PD and others.
