NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
Programme Officer: Prof. Shreeniwas Tyagi, Department of Hindi
National Service Scheme is a public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. It was launched in 1969, the year of Gandhiji's Centenary, with the motto "NOT ME, BUT YOU”. At NSS Gargi, our team consists of 120 devoted volunteers led by a Program Officer.
Our aim is to create sustainable and comprehensive models that bring positive change to society. We offer various opportunities for our volunteers to participate in social activities, all of which are geared toward promoting our motto.
We regularly organise awareness camps on topics like menstruation hygiene, plastic disposal, mental health, and uplifting underprivileged children. Along with our other endeavors, we have launched social service contests like the Goodwill Ambassador and Udaan inter-college presentation competitions. As part of our Swachhta Pakhwada, we organized clean-up drives and our volunteers created jute and handmade paper bags. Additionally, we implemented an e-waste donation program.
NSS Gargi organizes flagship events to provide wholesome experiences for volunteers. Our annual Diwali Mela, "ZISTATVA," is a key event where we offer a platform for various NGOs to display their products and generate revenue. This year, the college provided travel expenses for underprivileged students from different NGOs who gave stunning dance performances. In addition to this, we also organize a Blood Donation Camp where students, faculty, and non-faculty members donate blood.
To recognize our volunteers' talents, we organized poetry, essay writing, and poster- making competitions on various social issues. We always encourage our volunteers to participate in activities that benefit society.
